Awesome

Amiga
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1990    |     Publisher: Psygnosis     |     Developer: unknown
Game Review (written by Xeno333) Added on: 02/27/2007
The best word to describe this game is Awesome. It was way ahead of its time in graphics, sound and also in game play. It combines many different types of gaming as well, which adds to the complexity and also keeps the gamer interested by frequently changing the gaming style.
You begin the game hurdling through space in a large spaceship blasting your way through asteroids as the stars are spiraling around you. Mean while the heavy metal type rock music is blaring away sending a surge of energy through your veins.
This is all done in a standard top view shooter style format. Once you make it through the asteroid field it gets really awesome. The front section of the spaceship separates, and leaving the main ship behind, the smaller transport shifts into a first person type of view, much like in space harrier for the Sega Master system. While in this position you must use the smaller pee-shooter weaponry to fight on oncoming space dragon.
After you defeat the space dragon you begin to see a planet appear and your ship cranks on the blasters and heads for home. While on the planet you may make adjustments to your ship such as force field, cannons, and engine thrust. You can also purchase weapons upgrades. Also there is the added element that this is really where the game begins because this is where you sift through missions until you pick one with the right price and also you must have enough fuel to reach that planet if you choose the mission.
Once you choose a mission and reach the destination, you must navigate your ship to the landing site and the cool part is that the little guy pops out of the transport with a laser gun and you must fight off a bunch of land creatures to complete your mission.
I could really go on for hours talking about this game. You will not be disappointed as long as you remember that Awesome in 1990 was a lot different than Awesome is today. This game is still a good choice today and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something different and has the skill to play a difficult game. If I could go back in time it would be to my high school days of being the only kid with an Amiga 500 and my stereo speakers blasting the soundtracks of Awesome. Enjoy it!
