Axel's magic Hammer is a game about a brave young boy, whose powerful hammer and charismatic courage is needed to pound his way through bubbling lava pits, evil bats, stinging wasps, flying octopuses, and a whole lot other disgusting monsters, in order to save his beautiful friend Lucy from the Dragon King. You, as Axel, need to wield your hammer to bash your way on towards rescue.
The screen has a very basic design, typical to almost all arcade games. The number of points that you currently have, is at the top as well as your current life meter, how many lives you have left, how many power-ups you've found, and so on.
It strongly resembles Super Mario, with a question-mark block to reveal power-ups, blocks, you can destroy and monsters that die, when you jump on them, though this time, with a hammer.
The levels are different and of course, become harder, as you rise through the ranks. And there's a definite change in surroundings: mountains turn into a flat field and so on. You can jump really high, so that's a bonus, and your character has a very muscular look, though a little short. The music is bouncy, the animation is clear.
At first, it's incredibly easy to die, but after some power-up perfection and logic in location, playing is profoundly better. You don't have to start all the way back from
the beginning, if you decide to take a break, so that's a relief. Completing the first zone allows you a peek at what's coming at you in the next levels. And of course, at the end, you have to face the most superior and evil one of them all, the one who captured beloved Lucy: the Dragon King. And if you spend some time, you’ll defeat an enemy, and rescue Lucy.
Axel's Magic Hammer is a good way to spend your free time.
