Game Review (written by Metalfairy) Added on: 02/17/2007
Brutal Sports Football. The title in itself is enough to put most people off but back in the day, it was a whole lot of fun and my view has not changed much. The basic premise is that you work your way through a league, or play in a championship against a wide variety of human and not so human characters.
While playing the American style football game you collect various weapons that are randomly dropped and power ups (some include a rabbit – to make you faster and a tortoise – to make you slower). It becomes a lot harder, particularly when you have to face the mutants after encountering humans that do not look any different to modern metal bands in the easier games.
You could choose to play a strategic, well thought out game of American football. Or you could do what I used to do: grab all the weapons and try and lop the heads off the opposing team to save the whole strategic garb. The locker room feature gives you the opportunity to heal injured players and shock them if you want to.
It was a strange game then and it is a strange game now. But it is so ideal for some brainless fun. The graphics and game play were good for the day although the music leaves a lot to be desired. Particular highlight was the graceful way a head would fly off the body should you have got close enough with a chainsaw. The location for the matches was always the same but who cares? I never tried too hard with this game, which was the great thing about it. It appeals to both those who want to think the game through and those who simply just want to have a bit of fun.
I cannot say I have come across a game like it since. Maybe I am not trying hard enough or there is just not a market for sports with extreme violence. If sports and violence is not your thing, then avoid. However if you just want a bit of brainless fun, then I recommend this game. The violence is tame compared to some games today but it still has a gory element. You can chop people’s heads off, bomb them and give them a good kicking or head stamping – definitely not one for the faint hearted. I never played any other sports games except this one, probably because I don’t like a challenge. This game just does it for me. I give it 8/10.

(08/07/2006) What do you get if you take some crazy, twisted vikings and combine them with american football with just a little bit of futuristic science fiction? Brutal Sport Football is the answer! And I must say, as far as I can remember; There was something very entertaining about running around on a pitch, carrying swords, and with a bit of luck, ending up carrying your opponents head in the hand, while it still is the goal to get the ball through the other team and score. If you can handle some blood, and like fast action. This is your game (if you where a "Cannon Fodder"-fan, and have played the christmas special, and thought "killing thoes soccer players really kick ass", you know what I mean :)! Thumbs up: - Fast gameplay, which makes sure you'll never look away, not one second. - The graphics is fairly simple and very smooth, which gives the play-field a good overview. Crusual with hi-tempo games. Thumbs down: - I can't really think of anything, except you might get bored with it, if you play it too often. I gave it 7/10. -Kee Jason |
