I first started playing cannon fodder in the mid nineties and was quickly hooked. Released by sensible software in 1994.The humor is great and the simple game play makes it easy to pick up. Nothing worse than spending half the day trying to work out how to play a game! A great shoot game that doesn't have lots of gore. It also combines strategy and puzzles because as the levels get harder, there is often only one way to complete a level.

It just goes to show that you don't need state of the art graphics to generate a great game. The graphics are acceptable though. The troops are small
The playing field is viewed from above and you use the
mouse to move your troops around. At the start of the game, you start with a few troops and as you complete missions, these troops are added to. The troops even have names so it is good fun trying to keep the same names all the way through the game. This almost makes the troops seem personal. A nice touch!
Scenes include deserts, forest, snow, rivers, bridges and the weapons include guns, grenades, rocket launchers, tanks.
You can utilize vehicles such as jeeps and helicopters to run down the opposition. Ammo is limited so it must be used wisely and it is important to use available cover so that all your troops don't get killed.
Once cannon fodder 1 was mastered, I quickly moved on to cannon fodder 2 which was released a few years after Cannon Fodder 1. Cannon Fodder 2 now included time travel and opened up the game to a host of more scenes including aliens and the like. The game play is the same as cannon fodder 1.
It has been over 10 years since I last played Cannon Fodder 1 and 2 and so I have a yearning to replay old levels again that I have long forgotten. Not too difficult a game although some of the harder levels take some time to master.
One downside with Cannon Fodder is the fact that Cannon Fodder 2 is very similar to Cannon Fodder 1. This does make the game a bit repetitive towards the end. I suppose you cannot have a simple game that is easy to learn and a game that doesn't get repetitive at the same time. And a small price to pay though.
Well the time has come to take battle again. Bring them on!
