Witness and direct the birth and evolution of the American nations, starting with only limited resources, colonize wisely. The main elements of this game consist of:
Colonization as the title suggests.
Trade with Native Americans, and other European nations, most importantly your own to earn high profits and establish bigger colonies, the larger the colony the less royalist sentiment will be, and more support for the revolutionary cause.
Create a militia in which to defend and expand the dominion of the new world of which you will control. Using religion and the 'founding fathers' convert and indoctrinate native peoples, as well as gain added bonuses.
The graphics for this game are very smooth and nice to look at; unfortunately the Amiga version looked comparatively cheap when compared to its pc counterpart... The workbench style windows mean that the game is not as absorptive as it could have been.
Having said this music scores accompany the game well, and does do the Amiga's amazing sound capabilities proud.
The only complaints I must have about this game is the AI movement is a tad slow, and the method in which this game was ported to the Amiga was obviously hap hazard, leaving out some of the Amiga's graphical features which were deemed to be excellent in comparison to the standard IBM-PC, what a shame there was never an AGA release, which with colonization’s predecessor
improved the game a hell of a lot.
In conclusion, a definite success by Sid Meier and Micro prose, this game will have you addicted for several hours. Whether you try and subjugate the Native Americans, work with them or sherry go for military conquest, it is by no means easier then Civilization and nor is it less complex, Towards the end game it can become a tad tiresome as fleet after fleet of Man 'o War's approach your colonies, but if the Continental army is powerful enough in strength the play will succeed and the beginning of the American nation's starts.
Simmilar games which should also be worth considerd playing could be:
Civilization I - IV, Master of Orion or Call To Power
