Game Review (written by Lenriak) Added on: 03/10/2007
In this game you play as a warrior, who escapes from hell back to Earth and fights many mythical creatures from Greek, Norse and Egyptian mythology until he finally confronts some sort of god/demon that put him in hell. But in this kind of game, and at the time this game was made, not a lot of games had a great plot. I like games with a good plot, but this is one of the few games that I don't care what the story is about, I'm too busy hacking at all sorts of little mythical creatures.
There are many weapons in this game you can use: from swords and axes to fireballs and Infinity Anhks. You have to use the correct weapon against most of the enemies. For example: during the second level, after destroying a statue, you acquire a shield. Throughout this level you will be getting attacked by soldiers, however, if you equip the shield, they will simple run up to you and kneel. You can then simply run past them straight to the end of the level. There are also times, when enemies can be harmed with a certain weapon, it’s up to you to find out, which weapon to use. Controls are, like in most game of this type - quite simple, combat is quite fun too. Hold down the fire button and you'll go into a 'ready' stance, during this stance push the controller in different directions to pull off different attacks. With all the weapons in the game being quite different from each other, this makes fighting all fun instead off being a simple button-basher.
At the time the game was released, I thought the graphics were excellent, recently I thought they hold up quite well nowadays. The game doesn't look to shabby at all. The animations and screen-scrolling are very smooth and the sprites are nicely drawn with a great level of detail to the environments. They are nice, bright and colorful.
I don't think there is any music tracks to be heard during gameplay, but the sound effects are quite nicely done.
Overall, this is a nice game that is well done in all areas. I don't remember having any problems with any area of the games design. I enjoyed this game a lot in my youth. If you enjoy action games, then you need to try Myth. You won't be disappointed.
