Game Review (written by Ampage) Added on: 10/01/2006
Simcity 2000 is a terrific game. It has a relatively simplistic interface to use in building roads, power lines, and zoning. The newspaper is also a fun aspect, it reports actions that occur in your town such as disasters, new buildings, and government decisions (i.e. taxes).
You also have some terrific features at the start of the game, such as difficulty, frequency of disasters, starting income, and region. Also, you can start at various points in history, depending on how what your starting year is you have the option of creating various structures. As time progresses, you are able to build new structures, that have greater output capacities (power plants) and large buildings that are able to house high amounts of people, thus creating a higher profit base.
You also have the ability to designate funds to different local programs (i.e. education, firefighters, and police) the higher amount of money is put into the individual programs, the more effective they are. Thus, more money for police, the lower the crime rate in the city, or the more money you put into education, the more students will attend the colleges, thus the more buildings that will be constructed in your Commercial Zones, thus generating more tax revenues for the programs.
All in all the game is good, but it does have its limitations. After a certain year, you will not be given any new buildings to create. All you are able to do is construct more of the same buildings you already have. Also, the system in which you distribute water to the city is quite ineffective, you are not able to figure when you have no water left, until you check a building to see if it has water.
The music on the game is also quite mundane, it repeats the same tunes over and over again, the only time the music is changed is when disasters happen, then it switches over to a different "disaster" music. One particularly incredible aspect of the game is that it responds to pollution, if you build a power plant that generates chemicals into the atmosphere, your citizens will dislike you for it, therefore your population will decrease, therefore loss of income. All of these aspects come together to create a fun game that can change every time you play.

Melissamarie1767 (04/15/2007) This was an awesome game. I used play it after school everyday.23-travbm (08/23/2006) The game is realy the best in the series. It is the only one where you can build hydro plants. Unlike many of the new sim city game it automaticly rebuild power plant if you have the money. The arcologies in the game make it the best sim city game of all time. |
