Street Fighter 2 for me is the ultimate beat’em up. It is the original the best and the most addictive two dimensional fighting game out there. This game was ground breaking at the time of its release and is still timeless today. The graphics are amazing considering the age of the game and the interactive backgrounds where you can bash your opponent into objects such as pots was revolutionary at the time. It has a sound track that is second to none and instantly recognisable by all.
It was the game that led to all the Street Fighter games such as Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter two hyper etc.
It has many characters such as E-Honda a Japanese Sumo, whose signature move was is the Hundred Hand Slap, Chun Li a Chinese woman, who has the spinning whirlwind kick, Dalsim an India guru, who can stretch, breathe fire and teleport, Ken and Ryu, who throw blue fire balls. Blanka, a weird mutated man who can charge himself to do a great electricity attack that is practically undefeatable, unless you can attack under his electricity field or catch him in between moves.
The game is a timeless classic that can not be beaten by any modern day beat them up’s. The back grounds are revolutionary,
the variation of characters and there moves and special moves are extra ordinary, the bosses are amazing with such characters as Veda, who is a Spanish bull fighter with claws and a mask who can climb walls and fly off them attacking you, Balrog, an american Boxer, who hits really hard but can not kick and the end of game boss M-Bison who is a mad general. M-bison has a great attack where he fly’s the complete distance of the screen charged with a blue energy.
The game brought about the rise of the Movie Street Fighter which starred Jean Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minougue, but that was a bit comical to say the least but worth a watch for a bit of a giggle. If you have never played this game it is a must and you can now get it on such platforms as the Play Station 2 and the X-Box.
