Tetris has always been one of my, and many of my friend's, favorite games. It is a classic that will never go away. The simple, intuitive game-play makes Tetris a great game even for beginners. The game is played by arranging variously arranged falling blocks into patterns which complete rows across the game screen.
The blocks are all of different shapes and colors. However, the shapes are of a few basic types, all of which have right angles and straight lines.
As the blocks fall they are manipulated by the player to move right, left, or spin in order to fit into the desired area. Once a full row across the screen has been filled with Tetris blocks, that row will disappear, the player will be awarded with points, and the blocks above will fall down one row. Once enough rows have been completed, the game will progress up one level.
The higher the level, the faster the blocks fall, but also, the higher the total amount of points possible. If a player completes four rows at the same time with the same falling piece all four of those rows are eliminated and the player is credited with a "Tetris," which is worth
many more points than four separate rows completed. As more and more pieces fall, the player must keep completing rows in order to make more room in which to play. Once too many pieces pile up without rows being completed, the pieces will no longer be able to fall, and the game is over. This is a truly amazing game with addictive, inspiring music.
The simple, yet engaging graphics make the game fun and not overly complicated. Tetris was actually invented in soviet Russia as a way in which to teach about shapes and problem solving skills. The idea for Tetris was conceived by a now anonymous soviet citizen who made the game for the good of his country and may never be recognized. They gave the game to their country free of charge and the game has since become an international sensation. It is considered one of the ten best games ever invented, up there with Mario and Zelda.
Today Tetris can be found in any self respecting arcade, on many online sites, on most cellular phones, and even in more advanced calculators. Tetris will forever be one of the best games ever made!
