Game Review (written by Getcarter1989) Added on: 09/12/2007
Blues Brothers has to be one of my all times favourite games, the quirky movie spin off is a straight forward platform run and jump game.
The game is spread over 6 levels and is very loosely connected to the film, there is a prison, a mall and a theatre which are as settings featured in the film but the game doesn't follow the same story line as the film. For example instead of speeding through a mall in a high speed car chase you through crates at enemies, jump up levels, swim through pools and climb on clouds.
Even though there is this obvious lack of relevance the game is still very addictive and utterly brilliant.
You can choose to play as either Jake or Elwood, the character you choose makes no difference to the game play or the story which is a bit suspicious when you compare the size of Jake and Elwood, you would assume that Elwood would be able to jump higher being a much thinner guy but the physics are exactly the same. The enemies show similar resemblances to characters from the film such as police officers, Nazi's and the Waitresses. They try to slow you down in a variety of ways such as shooting, stabbing and throwing plates.
The soundtrack has to be one of the best for it's time, it's all stripped down monotone versions of the music from the film but brilliant for the game. There were many different versions over many formats but the only one that came close to the Amiga was the game boy which is very similar and well made especially for its format. The game was later followed by better sequel ever, called Blues Brothers- Jukebox Adventure.
Blues Brothers is by far one of my top games and is highly enjoyable. I’d recommend it to anyone that enjoys retro platform games. You’ll not be bored playing it! Because it’s fantastic and addictive game! I rate it a solid 9 out of 10. Download it!
