Game Review (written by Skaminoff) Added on: 10/11/2006
This was a very strange game but, none the less, very fun. It involved clips from what you would expect things that came out of strange dreams. One puzzle scene was smacking something with fish. Another was dueling man eating flowers (bushes?) while worrying about a lawn mower that would mow you down in a heart beat if you didn’t move quick enough! Yet another was playing catch the ball with a young girl that could swallow you whole! One of the first puzzles was difficult right off the bat.
You had to jump out of a cotton candy machine (I think it was a cotton candy machine) while trying to duck to miss the rod that spins around in the cotton candy machine yet you had to time it just right so you could jump up and grab the stick to make it out of the machine.
Whoever came up with the different puzzles and sequences was very clever. Very artsy. Very…. out there. Kudos to the authors. However, more time could have gone in to putting the sequences together. However, to their benefit, it would probably be hard for anyone to put these sequences together and make any kind of sense out of it… but then again, that’s the point… remember the title… weird dreams.
I remember that the graphics were wonderful and animation was great. Of course, the graphics and animation is nothing compared to what we have today. However, the graphics and animation was wonderful back then. I never could get enough and would stay up playing for hours. The sound effects were good but a little odd at times.
All in all I liked the game and would play it again. I wouldn’t buy it again but if I had it lying around and was looking for a retro game… I’d play it again. The game can be very frustrating because of the difficulty level. It might have been just me and my lack of skill but other kids who would come over to play it had a very difficult time with it as well.
The game has your normal joystick controls. According to web sites (looking for info on it since I downloaded a copy to play on an emulator… yes, I still own an original copy…) there are cheat codes which would make the game much, much easier. I will not give you the codes as I didn’t want them myself. However, they are out there. I never made it to the end but according to those that I know have made it further that me the puzzles and action got a little easier as you got further into the game.
