Zool 2 is a game I remember playing as a kid on my Amiga back in the early 1990’s. I absolutely loved it and it's still as great today as it was then! If only for the pure nostalgia and retro-ness of the game! If you mention the word Zool to anybody who remembers him they’re guaranteed to mention Jimmie’s guitar level and the Chupa Chups lollies! Oh not forgetting the music level with the drums and the keyboard! (You must play the game to understand these references!)
Anyway Zool 2 combines Zool with his sister and builds on the original game.
Zool was a kick ass alien type dude who zapped his way through various levels, shooting at sweets and avoiding various bad guys such as bumble bees and spewing flowers.
Zool 2 is a simple but extremely addictive platform game hence you can spend many, many hours playing it. You have to complete various levels (I think there is seven) jumping, spinning and blasting your way through the zones. You can choose to play as either Zool or his sister in one player mode or you can take part and play in two player mode.
Zool was the Amiga’s answer to Sonic and whilst it isn’t as slick or as fast paced as that game it still scores major points for
fun and addictiveness. Whilst Sonic has lived on, Zool was forgotten but it is worthy of a place in the hall of fame of being one of the best old games around.
The graphics in Zool 2 are simple but the game is really old now so that isn't such a problem. It is just so much fun; I absolutely loved the game as a kid and still love it now! Zool’s spin and fire motion is easy to use and virtually anybody can play this game – from young children to adults.
The backgrounds are absolutely wacky and very colourful – sunglasses required but it plays a big part in being the style of the old platform games. The music and sound effects are quirky and memorable, you could be humming them for days!
Overall Zool 2 is a simple, very fun platform game which provides hours of entertainment to anyone of any age! Ten out of Ten!
