This game is one of the most basic and simple football games. Originally for the C64, this game pits the blue team versus the red team in an epic football battle. C64 sounds and graphics are pretty basic but the game is very effective in portraying the game. Whether you are passing the ball, handing it off to your tailback, the ball and characters are well designed (this again for the C64). With the new games that come out on the latest systems (wii, xbox 360, playstation and PC) the old school graphics of the game still do not let down.
Fun for the older ages, as they were the ones to originally play the game, but still something to show the kids.
The music to the game is somewhat repetitive with the basic color patterns of the game, makes the game something that can be played a game at a time. No season mode, no be-a-pro, just old fashion 11 on 11 - red vs. blue. Players, teams and rules cannot be changed, plays are all virtually the same play book, as if two teams were coached by the one player, but trying to defend against the different options is the challenge. This is as basic as a football game can get, but it puts everything it has into it and allows you to leave everything you
want on the field.
All aspects of the game are covered, from offense to defense to even the special teams. Statistics, announcers and injuries are all included in the game, with all the typical football rules. This allows for even more authentication, though the teams are just simple and have no actual football players on the teams.
Some of the game ideas and details were used to create games that people know and love today in the world of sports, such as, fifa, madden, nba live and many more. This game is a cornerstone to how some people became football fanatics, while others it was a game they loved back in the day. Either way, it is a blast from the past that should be recommended to all that love football and want to see what it was like back in the day before you used to be able to edit teams, trade, create players and customize every little detail. It puts the 2D world back in the captains chair and forces the players to actually beat one another or beat the computer.
