Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 02/19/2008
This game is a vertical scrolling military simulation, in which one elite ranger of the U.S. military is sent to infiltrate enemy territory in order to complete various mission goals, such as killing or capturing enemy officers, destroying an enemy bunker, and even to blow up a Surface to Air Missile site. There is an option to select either one mission, or being able to do a campaign, in which many missions must be completed. Each mission generates maps and objective locations randomly, so planning each mission is essential to success.

At the beginning of each mission, the player is given a short overview of the mission, and is able to select a ranger from a roster of soldiers. Once the ranger is chosen, the

player begins to pilot an aircraft and is allowed to drop three ammo crates over enemy territory before parachuting into the area. These crates can be filled with various items and equipment, such as grenades, plastic explosives, rocket launchers or other various equipments. Evenly placing ammo and gear throughout the crates will prevent you from being forced to backtrack to pick up additional weapons or ammunition. There are many options to choose from putting in these crates, which allow the player to customize the game play to fit their own personal play style. Some may prefer to go through a mission utilizing stealth, or you can go the opposite route and begin to blow up everything in sight to complete your objective.
Many obstacles, such as enemy soldiers, mines, and bunkers stand in the way of the character’s mission, but can be taken out in a variety of ways. Killing an enemy officer isn’t restricted to shooting him, blowing him up with your rocket launcher will do the job just as well. Due to the ranger’s limited ammo, a path through the enemy’s territory should be planned carefully, but the ammo crates that were dropped previously provide the ranger with extra ammunition and gear in case the player needs it. After the mission is deemed a success, the ranger must navigate his was out of the area to a pick-up point without being killed, within a set time limit. If the ranger is captured however and not killed, a mission will become available from the perspective of another soldier from the roster to rescue the captured team mate. Animations of your ranger and environments are done very smoothly, and the customizability of the game to fit the player’s preferences makes the game a very unique and fun experience.
