Archon II: Adept is a phenomenally designed person verses person game. The game is part of the Archon sequel but unlike the first one it doe not resemble the chess-playing format. The game has been set up onto a board game like play field, where there are two sides on opposing ends of the field. When both sides have come to join each other onto one square the will take part in a combat scene dueling it out till one opponent dies.
The game has been designed in a rectangular formation with four different concentric areas. These areas of four elements placed upon them, which consist of Earth, Wind, Fire, and also Water. At the beginning of the game you will have control
over four Adepts that have the ability to cast spells and move around the game board. On each of the corners that has been placed power points, that will switch to a new element each and every turn. In the center part of the game that are spaces known as voids, which are nothing too special. Throughout the turns you will have the ability to move summoned monsters, move an adept, or casting spells with your adept. Depending on how you are taking the game on strategically will change your motives each turn.
With the monsters there are two types that can be summoned by the Adepts. These monsters are Elementals and demons. The monsters have the ability to be summoned by one of your Adepts and then be placed in one of the elements that is being occupied by that Adept. Your monster will be able to travel through that element at free will or move to another element. Depending on the side that you are playing on, either Order or Chaos will vary on the type of monsters you have available. Each monster has its own abilities and means of combat to make each one unique in its own way.
To win the game there are four different ways to complete it. One of the first ways to complete the game is to be occupying all of the six power points at one time. Another would be winning the Apocalypse, or when your opponent either runs out of magic or can’t make anymore moves. Lastly, when you are taking on the computer there is an option that allows you to concede to the human opponent. This move will only occur if the computer player does not have enough energy left to get new pieces after a few turns or only has one Adept left.
Overall, the level of difficult for this game will vary on how you are attempting to defeat the game. Once you have taken part in the game a few times you will discover the game to become a little more difficult. If you have played the previous Archon version the game may seem far simpler to you.
