Asteroids- the classic game that kept the entire arcade franchise going. Just when the world was getting tired of Pong, the people behind that decided to release a new game called Asteroids. In this game, you play as the unnamed spaceman in your trusty and reliable ship. You have been flying around in deep space, when suddenly you are set upon by a horde of asteroids. It is your job to take the controls, and either blast or be blasted.
The controls are nice and simple, and the graphics.
.. well, what can I say. Your ship looks like an "A" and the asteroids are lumpy, deformed squares. That is the only downside. The upside: Very fast, very fun, VERY addictive game play. You can fly around the screen with an inexhaustible supply of fuel, and if you are trapped with no way out by several asteroids coming your way, you can use the warp function. But beware! More often than not you wind up in the middle of an asteroid, smashed into a million tiny pieces. The first time I had played this, I kind of laughed at the simple game play- but my parents had to pull me off the thing three hours afterwards.
Eventually, we got one for our computer, and I spent hours on that one game. The high score system should keep everyone in the household trying to beat the other people's score, and if you're alone, you can just keep trying the game over and over and over again, trying to beat your high score. The whole idea is amazing; just how long this game keeps you playing. "Yes! Level complete. Ok, just one more level. Yes! Ok, one more level" Then you look at the clock and- It's 2 am? Wow.
That wasn't supposed to happen. Oh well, as long as you're up you might as well- keep playing! It has been so popular that it has been reformed to many different consoles, computers, and anything else that you can think of- it is almost impossible to not find.
Hey, look! I found it! Right here! So now that you know where it is, download it! What are you waiting for? Unbelievably addictive, it should keep you just like the Energizer bunny- going and going and going. If you haven't tried it, then please do- and stop tormenting yourself with the lack of blasted asteroid and ship rubble. It’s a must-play for any serious classic game player.
