Game Review (written by Eeleel) Added on: 01/26/2007
Bionic commando is one of the all time best games. It was originally released on the NES where I enjoyed it quite a bit. It has a lot of replay-ability and was hard to figure out first time around. Unlike other action adventure games where you walk, walk, walk and some times must jump over a hole. In this game your character “the bionic commando” has a hook and grapple on his arm and must hang and swing like a monkey all the way through the game.
If your timing is not right you will surly in most cases fall into the hole because often there is no floor to fall on to.
The characters you are up against are also just as powerful as you. Where you may take three hits they can also withstand three blows before going down so your on even ground, even against the grunts. The bosses are tough but not always unique some look and act the same. The levels are very unique and have to be navigated precisely and carefully while still affording you the ability to have fun figuring what you want to use as your means to advance across the stage.
I am super stoked that this game is available

not just on the old NES anymore and that you can get it for download. I have recommended this game to every single gamer friend I’ve ever met. I think it still holds up with all the newest adventure games no matter whether the graphics are old or not it still kicks butt. I have often likened it to the original metroid, with its vast and expansive map and the ability to freely roam the boards. It’s not like most games of its time for example Ikiri-warriors or contra. There is a bit of side scrolling but the concept is used differently. This is one of the first things that drew my attention to this game was the different feel it had the options and choices I was afforded in perusing the goal of reaching the final boss and destroying the albatross.
I think the game engine that they used to create this was unique at the time. I was very glad to see they attempted the same feel when redesigning bionic commando for the game boy color. Another cool adventure in the bionic commando franchise. In closing I give this game 4 out of 5 stars. It’s just as playable today as it was in its original release. 4 out of 5 stars.
