I played this game in childhood. It follows the classic engine that all SSI games tend to follow: Top Left 1/4 of the screen is the party's forward view, Top Right 1/4 is the party list, and the bottom half is the description of what is happening. This is when you are traveling within a "dungeon" environment: Starships, occupied cities, etc. Otherwise, in civilized cities you'll have a list of locations you can visit, or you'll have an overhead map of either the planet you are on, or the Solar system (out to the Asteroid Belt).
The game starts you out as recent recruits to NEO, to fight off the terrors of RAM, when suddenly your secret installation is attacked! Your party is a group of people, who group together because of survival reasons, and then they happen to stick together for the rest of the story too.
The plot of the game is very nice. There are some puzzles along the way, and the action is very challenging. You may find some of the puzzles difficult to solve, and a lot of flavor to the game will be lost since you can't read a huge chunk of the plot. But it is not a puzzle heavy game (though, the journal will still help you in
some situations). So it's still possible to navigate, if you just like the old feel to the SSI games. I rank this game much higher than a lot of the normal SSI games in terms of story, so I highly recommend finding the manual. It will help you so much. So, if you like games of this genre, you should try this one.
