Genre:  Strategy    |     Year: 1983    |     Publisher: Atarisoft     |     Developer: Namco Limited
Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 01/02/2008
Taking on underground monsters can be a great task in Dig Dug, which is a breathtaking arcade adventure. It is time to inflate all these underground creatures and watch them explode or crush them underneath some very heavy rocks. Depending on the creatures that you have an encounter with may depend on the choice of action you take.
There are two types of creatures that you will a confrontation with. Pookas are little round creature’s colored red to resemble tomatoes. They will have yellow protective goggles on, which aren’t too protecting if I might say.

He still takes on the dragon like feature and breathes fire of course.

tunnels is one of your best professions Dig Dug has ever been given. Not knowing that you will have these horrendous encounters when he got the job, you wouldn’t have expected to take it on. There are several ways that you can get yourself killed. Being caught or lit on fire are just two of the ways that you will have yourself killed.
Time to kill some of these crazy creatures. Pull out that pump and start pumping away. It will take a total of four pumps to inflate those little creatures. Try not to leave them half inflated since they will deflate and start after you. Try dropping some rocks on top of them as well.
Whichever way you prefer to destroy these creatures, both are just as satisfying as the other. Beware though; the creatures have the ability to travel below the tunnels so they can pop out of nowhere on you. Destroy all the creatures and you will get the joy of continuing onto the next level.
Arcade format has been used in the graphical design of the game. There are many colors and textures in place for the designs, but not too much detail used. Even though the graphics are pretty general the game is still a lot of fun. Not too much difficulty, until there is no dirt left and the creatures are moving around very fast. This does take the game to the next level of difficulty, which is quite amusing to watch.
Sensational and quite uncommon is how you would describe Dig Dug. There is a lot of excitement throughout every level that will soon have you tied into the game like a knot. Many aspects of this game and the unexpectedness of the creatures will keep any gamer wanting more. Take the challenge and play Dig Dug, you won’t have any regrets.
