Ah yes Dizzy, he is but an egg. An egg who, strangely, wears boxing gloves. Which is highly impractical given the type of stuff that he has to carry around on his adventures. Dizzy has a lot of friends, all of whom seem to have names that begin with D, just like the lovely Dizzy himself. A bit odd that, because names that begin with D don't really fit with the whole egg thing - Dizzy the Egg, Denzil the Egg. Not the best really.

A bit odd that, because names that begin with D don't really fit with the whole egg thing - Dizzy the Egg, Denzil the Egg. Not the best really. Egbert might be better. Although naming a range of eggs with names that begin with E could be quite difficult. Elizabeth the Egg is not very catchy. Plus the whole E thing is not really the most imaginative way of naming
them I suppose.
Anyway, back to the plot. Dizzy's mates have a bit of a habit of getting them into trouble. Especially his girlfriend Daisy. She's always getting captured by some evil wizard or something. As a result, Dizzy has to go and rescue her and his other friends who manage to get themselves trapped as well. So Dizzy finds himself in all manner of sticky situations.
Dizzy is all about puzzle solving. You find stuff, pick it up and carry it around. Then you can use it to help you do all of the things that you need to solve the mystery of whatever land you are in and save your friends. Some of the puzzles are pretty hard, some of them are much easier. Best of all it’s lots and lots of fun.
The Dizzy games take me back to many Sunday afternoon in the eighties and nineties spent on my commodore 64. Spending 30 minutes waiting for the game to load (at the end of which there was no guarantee it would actually work), although the later introduction of the loading screen, which presented some squiggly multi coloured lines and a nice picture of Dizzy to stare at during the loading process made it a little more bearable. If not the reason so many people have to wear glasses these days.
Of course the other frustration was the fact that you couldn't save the game. It was either complete it now or start again next time. The source of many rows with my mum, who turned of the computer when I was at a crucial moment but had to leave to attend the annoyance that was school.
Dizzy is a true institution. If you have never played, get it, try and enjoy it. And at least try to solve it yourself before getting frustrated and downloading a walkthrough. We never had those back in the day.
