Doctor Who and the Mines of Terror, 1986, Micro Power
Players: 1
The Doctor Who game for the c64 based on the TV series
THE GAME: You play as Doctor who a time lord whose mission in this game is to stop the Master. The master is hiding the mines of terror where he is mining a substance called heatonite, which he needs to make TIRU (that allows the future of the universe to be altered). He wants to go back to the beginning of time and make him self immortal as the devil him self. There is only one man/alien that can stop him the Doctor.
It’s a simple platform game that you find items to use to help you on your way. It’s also a puzzle game, as you have to work out what to do with those items. You also have in your control Splinx (a cat looking thing) that can go places that the doctor can’t which you need to pick up items, perform tasks since the Doctor can’t kill anything in the game, another down side especially when your are chased by the daleks.
To complete the game the Doctor has to retrieve the plan from the lab and get it back to the timelords. It’s not easy when the map is so big and without the map that used to come with the game you can get lost easy.
REVIEW: Overall the game can be very addictive, I played it when it first came out on the c64 and I’m still playing now.
The graphics and sound are very impressive but it does have al the doctor who elements in it (for the doctor who fans), of course the daleks make an appearance. The graphic of the doctor is based on everyone’s favourite doctor Tom Baker.
One thing that is missing is the old famous tune plus the repetitive nature of the music can make it very enjoying.
