Beating other people up is a favorite kind of game by many gamers everywhere in the world. A great combat game would be Double Dragon that was developed in 1987 by the Technos Japan Corporation.
The game has been set throughout the post apocalyptic in New York City taking place five years after a nuclear war. There are many different gangs and organized criminals that have taken over the city. You will be taking the role of either Bill or Jimmy Lee who is martial arts trained duo.
The game begins with Billy’s girlfriend being kidnapped and then you receive a letter informing you of the kidnapping. She was captured by the Black Warriors who are wanting to know the secrets of the Sou-Setsu-Ken martial arts to get her released. The Black Warriors are the biggest gang that is in the city who have become led by Willy Mackey.
The plot is quite in depth for a combat game, but when you are actually in the game there is no plot-taking place. You will get the plot at the very beginning of the game in an animated video. This will give you something to work for throughout the game.
As the player you will have two attack formations such as punch and kick as
well as your jumping ability. There are several techniques that you will be able to utilize by certain button pushes. One very well known technique would be the elbow punch that allows you to knock your opponent down from behind which can come in handy. Throughout the game you will encounter opponents that will have other sources of weapons, which could include knives, baseball bats, and whips. You have the ability to disarm them of these weapons and then pick them up yourself and give them a taste of their own medicine.
The game has a total of four stages. Once you have completed a stage you will be taken to the next one. The first three stages have been designed to be set into one large area. When you’ve reached the final battle you will encounter various clones of several of the bosses that you recently had contact with. Once you have beat all these you will then take on the Big Boss of the game, which is of course Willy. If you take on Willy as a duo you will then compete against each other till one wins. Who ever wins this battle with get the joy of kissing the girl you is rescuing. So in the end there the plot is brought back out.
Double Dragon has been designed to have a different feel then previous combat games that were developed in the past. With the game having a somewhat feel of the plot you will always be working towards something knowing there is a reward for you at the end of the game. If you want to try a game that is a little more complicated then other combat games then Double Dragon would be perfect for you.
