Game Review (written by Maxpower10) Added on: 10/18/2006
Many older DOS games have had great staying power. Some of my favorites include Railroad Tycoon, Civilization, Blake Stone, and Hillsfar. Hillsfar is a great early Dungeons and Dragons role playing game. It is based in the city of Hillsfar, although other places in the surrounding area can be visited.
Your goal is to obtain lots of gold and complete quests for your guild. In the beginning of the game you select your race, class, moral alignment, and attributes at your home camp.
This is where you create, load, and save characters. After you select what type of character you are (deciding what class to be has an impact on the game) you have to ride to the city of Hillsfar, as your camp is outside the city. Heads up for any obstacles along the ride! Once in Hillsfar, there are many things to do.
You can visit your appropriate guild, depending on what class you chose. This allows you to start you quests. Make sure you have your code wheel when visiting the guild master, because you won't be allowed in without the codeword. These quests require you to travel all around the city and the surrounding areas. They are not exactly easy to complete and are pretty involved for a game like this. Aside from the quests, there are other places to visit in Hillsfar.
You can fight in the arena, although if you die, you die! You can also visit pubs during the nighttime, which provide other fun and interesting options. Another place to visit is the archery range, where you can practice your sharp shooting. All of these places are involved in quests at some time, but you can visit them any time. You also can enter almost any building at any time, however if you enter one that is locked, you are essentially breaking in.
Explore and break into chests as much as you want, but eventually the guards will be after you. If you get caught, it's off to the arena! All in all, this game was and still is a fun and engaging game. The graphics work well enough for the game, and are actually pretty good. I recommend this game for both Dungeons and Dragons fans and those who just enjoy classic games. This is an incredibly engaging and sometimes time consuming game for all ages.

Travel around the Realm of Hillsfar, looking for action and adventure. A mixuture of real-time action games and randomly generated quests and encounters guarentees unexpected results with each game.
