Pdkenny (09/04/2006) This was a turn based strategy game published by Stategic Simulations Inc in California, 1984. There is an IBM DOS version of this game. The only competing game at the time was Reach for the Stars. This game was for 1 to 4 players, and one could play it hotseat or by e-mail (or sneaker net). (yes, there was e-mail in 1984, we would call into our e-BBS). This was one of the original 4X games, today's desendants would be Masters of Orion or Space Empires IV. My favorite aspect of the game was the cat and mouse search for enemy fleets, knowing where the attact might come from but trying to guess where they enemy fleet would actually show up, using scouts to spot for enemy fleets or raiders to tear up outposts "behind the lines." The game assumed FTL space travel and the combat was between fleets, but one could retreen if a battle was going badly. Maintinance was important and you had to bring your fleet back to a base for refueling. Colony development was important. Systems had from 0-2 colonizable planets, some might already have life. Pretty good game for 1984.
