Jack the Nipper is a highly addictive platform game similar to those of you that remember the dizzy series or even Bart vs. the space mutants. This game kept me amused for hours on end. Released around 1987 on the Commodore, Amstrad and other various platforms it was a game well ahead of its time with the programmers and designers having a clear sense of humor. I was only 8 or maybe 9 when I first game across it, but since then it’s firmly stuck in my mind.
Our main character in the game Jack is a naughty little kid and a vandal of sorts- he likes to be as bad as possible while breaking various items that aren't his. Jack the Nipper is a multi-screened action game filled with prankish acts of vandalism! The destruction spree takes place in a rather large town filled with computer stores, police stations and museums.
In these various establishments, Jack must seek out valuables to smash. For example in the museum, there are priceless vases that are waiting to be broken on the floor. Because Jack is a tiny kid, he'll have to hop on various items to reach the specific target. Once the target is reached, he'll place it in his pocket and then smash it on the floor! Other valuables
include computers, video recorders and many more.
Whenever an object is destroyed, the naughty meter increases. The meter is located at the base of the screen. Also located at the bottom of the screen is a rash meter. Vandalism comes at a price- there are loads of enemies located on each screen. Enemies come in the form of dogs, police officers, various men and women, chattering teeth and many more. When Jack runs into one of these enemies, the rash meter goes up and when the meter has been filled, life is lost. Jack has five chances to destroy as many different items as he can.
All I can say is that I would highly recommend downloading this game. You’ll like it.
