Game Review (written by Voxxen) Added on: 08/14/2007
I consider this game to be one of my all time favourite games on any system that I have ever played. It’s a general truism to say that RPG as a genre is epic in scope. I suppose no one wants to play an RPG where the objective is to survive a monotonous day at the office and convincingly feign interest in your co-workers’ dreary lives. But Magic Candle really does have an epic feel in story and ambition that other games badly fail to capture. While playing Magic Candle, don’t be surprised if you really feel the urgency of your quest and how badly the Children of Light are going to get shanked by the Armies of Darkness if you screw up and let Dreax get his shank on.
If you don't cheat, Magic Candle is immensely challenging. You're given a time limit to restore the Magic Candle and prevent Dreax's escape. In your 1000 days you've got to build your characters up, collect a number of key items, memorize a lot of spells, eat a lot of gunshots, talk to help NPC, fill in the Zirvanad, and not get killed by the occasional Azrael.
MC is really innovative in a number of respects. My favourite innovation was that you could split your party up and have some of your party get a job. If someone's occupation is a blacksmith, not only can they fix your weapons, they can also get a job in Port Avur and make some extra coin. Given that you're under a time constraint, being able to effectively multi-task and plan appropriately is a very valuable and a necessary skill.
Another great thing about MC is that it is hard to get stuck due to a tough fight or a particularly tough dungeon. If you can't hack it, you can always come back locked and loaded with lots of expendable resources and just apply enormous amounts of brute force to save the day.
Play this game and give it at least two hours to really work its magic on you. It’s a fantastic and exciting one! I recommend this game to all ages! It’s worth downloading!
