Game Review (written by Goddess_usagi) Added on: 10/13/2006
Maths blaster – an ultimately educational game with lots of fun. It involves the main character, Blasternaut going through several levels to try and save his friend Spot who has been kidnapped by the ‘baddie’ of this game.
Blasternaut is forced to do maths in order to reach the next level. There are 4 levels, the first which involves the ‘trash blaster’, where Blasternaut has to solve at least 15 maths problems so that he can collect 15 pieces of space rubbish, including apple cores, old newspapers.
The next level involves Blasternaut trying to make the correct equations, while recycling the other equations so that he may use them at a later time. Each of the pieces of rubbish he has collected from the previous level must be recycled in a similar way through this level.
In the 3rd level, Cave Runner, Blasternaut has a number on his back, and must make his way through openings to get to the top and reach Spot. This level though, means that the user must work out which openings they can go through, by calculating whether his number is equal to the number in the opening. However, if Blasternaut should hit a water drop, his number will change, meaning that the user must be able to find new openings. After finally reaching the top, Blasternaut finds that the evil Trash Alien has stolen Spot away to his space ship.
In this fourth and final level, our protagonist must give the correct answer to the maths problem that the Trash Alien gives by flying into the appropriate opening. He must, however, do this by avoiding the flying pieces of trash which will hurt him.
This is a useful game for the practice of maths skills, it involves addition, subtraction, division and multiplication, with many different questions. As the difficulty increases so does the difficulty of the question, and thus the game becomes more challenging for the user. The difficulty of the game can be changed according to the grade of the student, and as such it is a useful game for ages 6 - 12 - in other words for most of primary school.
It is a fun but also very educational game which causes the user to really consider their maths abilities but also improve upon any issues they have to do with the specifics of primary school maths.
