Game Review (written by Swimminpixi) Added on: 05/03/2007
Minesweeper was created by Robert Donner and Curt Johnson of Microsoft in 1981. I first played minesweeper when I was 8 years old in 1995. Back then it was awesome. Today, it is still awesome. This is what I call a classic game. It is a very simple game.
You are faced with a grid that you click on to reveal numbers, or mines. Sometimes, if no mines are around, many spaced will become free. This makes it so not ever square is one you need to click. If you click on a mine, the game is over. If you get a number, that is the number of mines touching that particular space. If you suspect that a space has a mine on it, you may right click the space and a flag will show up on the square alerting you to the fact you believe a mine is there. If you click on a mine and end the game, the solution will be revealed telling you where all of the mines were. There are many levels and settings. You can adjust the size of the grid as well as the number of mines for each game.
This makes it great for all ages and experience levels. My favorite feature is the smily face that has changes its expression during gameplay. In the end, there are best time rankings, so you can compare yourself to your friends. It’s a great, simple game that everyone should have that commonly comes with new computers running the windows operating system. If, for some reason you do not understand the game, there are in depth help files that will help you with any problem you have including the problem of losing. They have a section in the help menu dedicated to strategies, although it is best to figure it out for yourself.
There is the option of having sound. The sound ticks off each second that you play the game. It is very annoying and loud and there is a reason that the default is off. There is a ticker at the top that alerts you to the number of mines left on the playing field. The programs takes up very little space on your hard drive and takes up very few resources to run. This is great for overworked computers as you can watch high quality videos and play minesweeper simultaneously. It is a free game that you should check to see if you already have. It comes in both black and white and color. The black and white look gives it an even more retro look that many people enjoy.
