You will get to choose to either be on the North or South side if the Civil war combats with the option to start the game throughout the years of 1861 and 1864. For each year there will be a selection of armies and states that you will begin with, each being different for each year of selection.

For each year there will be a selection of armies and states that you will begin with, each being different for each year of selection.
The USA map has been used for the design of North & South, which has been separated into several states and territories. There is the option of to transfer your units between the states that you have in ruling. There is the chance that enemies will be capable
of capturing railway stations that are equipped with a fort. To take over states and territories you may encounter ones that are currently under no control, move some of your units into this location and it will officially be yours.
Your armies have the option to be reinforced, which can be done by selecting the option under the main menu. Depending on the player that is under control of North Carolina they will receive ships that are reinforced with units. The railways will receive money for their services that will allow you to purchase new reinforcements for your team.
The combat of the game takes place when two different teams come into contact with one another. The way the winner is selected will depend on the number of units that is on the state or territory and the luck of the draw. All the results have been randomized making it that you are unable to determine who is going to win each combat. There is the option to retreat from the battle; whatever units you haven’t used at the time of retreat are what you will be left with on that state or territory. Generally, the game will take any path possible since everything has been randomized making it that no player is actually favored.
Depending on the actual screen you are in either the battle screen or the map screen they will differ in various ways. Both teams will start off on opposite ends of the map. They will then be equipped with various units ranging from infantry to cannons. You are equipped with a total of six infantry, three cavalry, and one cannon available for your using at the beginning of the game. Eventually you will develop are larger unit force. In the battle scenarios you can use a total of six infantry, three cavalry, and three cannons during the battles. You will only be capable of moving one group of units at a time, but the computer has the option to move all three adjacent. Overall, each battle will continue till one-team runs out of units or until one or the other retreats. Be aware though, when you retreat though any cannons in use in that current battle will be lost.
For a third person perspective format of the game the graphics are astounding. Side scrolling has been used when you begin attempt of capturing a fort. With the large amount of colour and smooth animation North & South has been formulated to become a well-displayed game.
Strategy plus comical combat are some great aspects to North & South. With not too much complication based into the plot and a well-randomized game, there is always a chance you will take conquer over the entire map. Every move will require a large amount of strategic thought with planning of several moves at a time. Addiction to North & South will occur for most players since the game is action packed making the game fulfill all your expectations of true thrilling combat.
