Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 12/04/2007
Pirates is an adventure simulation where you will be taking the part of a privateer in the Spanish Main in the 16th to 18th centuries. The game is a single player game where you will be doing services for Spain, The Netherlands, England, and France. You will have the option to turn to piracy at any time during the game especially if you are no longer loyal to the country you are working for.
The game is definitely open ended; you have so many options throughout the entire game that it will change periodically.

The game is definitely open ended; you have so many options throughout the entire game that it will change periodically. Some of the things that you can do to change the plot of the game are attack enemy ships and towns, seek buried treasures, avoid violence, seek wealth through trade, and

many more. Everything you do will reflect the game entirely. There isn’t a set ending for the game, but you will eventually have a difficult time finding a crew for your ship having an effect on you. Your character that you are playing does age throughout the game and soon your health will be deteriorating leading you to retirement. Once you have retired the game will end and all your accomplishments will further you along to a new job under the King.
Pirates is a great educational game when it comes to the game play. You will learn how to read naval tactics and then there is the educational teaching of hand eye coordination for combat scenarios. After playing the game you will definitely have a unique perspective when it comes to the challenges of naval combat.
The graphics of the game are very well done for the years of creation. There is enough detail to this game that makes it very appealing. The difficulty level of this game isn’t actually hard. With the game being open-ended you are more so choosing how difficult you would prefer the game to be. Once you have decided what you would like to do throughout the game, everything will become simpler. The game is taking place in the Caribbean, which makes the game to be more colourful than others in the past. With this the game will have a lot more details to be done to the scenery. Overall, the graphics are great and surely appealing to the human eye.
Pirates is a great game for any player. There are so many options for this game that it will change every time you attempt it. After a little while of playing this game you will be able to switch things up and maybe take the game in a complete opposite direction. Pirates is by far a great game for all ages and will be enjoyed by all. There is so much to expect you must expect the unexpected.

This is the kind of game you didn’t mind waiting all that loading time for. Countless hours of homework not being done from this one. Easily tops my list for C64 games.
