Pitfall is an action platform game where you will be playing the character of Pitfall Harry, an Indiana Jones style archaeologist adventurer with the same hat. You will be on a search to find the treasure deep in a jungle. There are many items you will discover on your travels through the jungle; some of these would be money bags, silver bars, gold bars, and even diamond rings. You must be careful though; there is a large amount of obstacles that are attempting to knock you off your path.
Some of these obstacles can kill you as others will only take away some of your earned points. There is a time limit of twenty minutes to complete this game, making it extra challenging.
Pitfall is a great game when it comes to the number of challenges you will encounter. You must strategize on how to get around these challenges before you run out of time. Some of the challenging areas that you will encounter are tar pits, quicksand, water holes, walls, fire, and rolling logs. There are also a few creatures you could run into that are very dangerous; these consist of rattlesnakes, scorpions, and crocodiles. Some ways of avoiding these challenges would be by jumping over, climbing over, running, or
even swing over with a vine. There are so many options to get past these challenges, but be careful with the one you choose to use.
At the beginning of the game you will have a total of 2,000 points. Once you start playing the game you will discover items throughout the game that will gain you points. Each item you find will vary in the points you get. If you can complete the game by finding all the items and not stumbling over any obstacles you can complete the game with a total of 114,000 points. It is nearly impossible to do, however, because there are so many ways to lose points.
Pitfall isn’t too difficult of a game. Everything you have to do is fairly simple once you figure out the best ways to do things...at least in theory. After a little while of playing you will have the controls down and what you are expected to do drilled in your mind. The challenge is actually DOING those things within the time limit.
The graphical design definitely fits the platform design quite well. There have been some great details done to each screen, but over all the game does commit to the platform layout and designs. Pitfall Harry can climb, run and jump similar to many other platform games. It is a horizontal scrolling game.
Pitfall is a very exciting game that all ages could enjoy playing. The game can be very thrilling with all the unexpectedness throughout the entire game. The game has been designed phenomenally, and is very addicting so you will find yourself playing this game for long periods of time. Once you determine how to avoid all the obstacles and discover every item in the entire game, you will be flying through this game. Pitfall is a great game that everyone will enjoy, even kids.
