Game Review (written by Vincent28) Added on: 11/14/2006
Ports of call is a great shipping Sims game. I use to play this game for hours when I had my Amiga 500. You start out with 5 mill and you have to buy a ship, and you start shipping from one country to another, you have a choice on where and what you are going to ship.
As with any Sims game you are trying to make the most money you can. There are lots of surprises in the game as where you will need to pilot you ship thru ice bergs and reefs.
Some times the tugs are on strike and have to pull into port on your own.
The object of the game is to increase the size of your business and add more and more ships, also you can buy much larger ships, I wouldn’t go all out on first ship just get a cheap one and work from there. And you can play against others as well, 2 players make it more fun to compete against each other to see who the better business man or woman is.
I’m not sure what else to say in this review. At some ports you run the risk of getting attacked and losing your cargo, there are also storms that can delay

you, causing you to lose time and get penalized for being late. Be sure to keep your ship fuelled up at each port as not to run out of fuel, I had to pay another ship one million to pull me into port. That’s a rip but what could I do. Also your ship needs to be repaired each time you get into port that can be costly at times but that is another thing you will have to keep up with.
I would try and learn to dock your ship yourself as it will cost you money each time you use the tugs to get you into and out of port anywhere from three thousand to eight thousand. It could be higher in some places but not that I’ve seen. If you try and buy a new ship and don’t have the funds the sales office will charge you for paperwork. I know this because I tried a few times. Lol.
Some hints you can use are try slowing your ship down if there is no time limit on delivery and you can save some money on fuel. Also if there is nothing worth shipping you can try and lay up for a weel or two but remember you cost keep coming each day even if you’re not sailing with cargo.
All in all this is a fun game and a great past time, I hope you have as much fun playing as I have.
