Rampage is a great classic arcade game, created by Billy Midway, from the time of arcade glory days. (Circa 1980's) The object of the game is to destroy each town by punching and kicking the buildings. Jumping also causes damage to the buildings. However, if you fall off of a building, you will sustain damage. Also, if you destroy a building while hanging onto the side of it, you will fall off.
There are three characters to choose from, there is Ralph (a King Kong like gorilla), Lizzie (a green Godzilla like lizard), and Ralph (a blue werewolf like monster).
The three characters were humans that were mutated by different methods. In addition to destroying buildings to advance to the next level, you can also destroy military weaponry like tanks, helicopters, and planes; civilian transportation like cars and trucks; and you can also eat a various array of people from nuns to apartment tenants to civilians. The people can fight back by throwing various objects at you like grenades and shooting bullets. If you lose enough life, you change back into a human and the game is over. You can recover health by eating food, such as turkey and hamburgers, which is revealed by breaking windows. However, you can also eat things that are harmful such as electrical appliances and toilets, thereby reducing
your health.
One of the great things about this game is that it can be played by many players. There are also some added bonuses that you can collect by breaking the windows such as cash and jewels. Also, you can eat the people that hang out of the window calling for help.
Even though this game seems repetitive, it is quite addictive. There are many different cities to explore and many different types of buildings to destroy. Also the people change from city to city. The different cities include Peoria, Detroit, and Baltimore. However, the game can get a bit dull after all the crashing, smashing, and eating. Also, the sound quality is not as good as what is offered today.
In conclusion, Rampage is full of smashing and bashing fun that can be quite addictive but becomes boring. Also, the sound is not the best compared to today, but it was great for the time period. This game is a good game to get for nostalgia's sake.
