Game Review (written by Billadong) Added on: 01/13/2007
I first played this game in Quebec, Canada at a video arcade and never found the arcade version in the US, but I think the original Nintendo system had a game for it. I liked it so much I became a member of a video store just to rent this game and it’s the only thin I ever rented from them. The objective of the game is you are on land in a coastal fortification and are attacked by sea.
The ships can land forces on the shore and then you will be attacked by land and sea forces, so it is best to destroy the ships and not allow them close to land.
When the ships breech your walls, in the next turn you can rebuild them, but you have certain Tetris like pieces and only a matter of time before it ends. After several turns you are allowed another fort and though this seems a benefit it sometimes hinders because there is only so much space on the screen. You also get additional batteries to place in the fort. If the land forces enter your fort then you loose the fort. If I recall they can turn the fort against you once they recapture it.
Again, the game is much like Tetris but with guns. And the added ships and warfare make the game more exciting then Tetris, but I do not know why the game never really took off and became as popular as it should have been. It might have been because Atari manufactured it. I remember when I first saw the game in 1992 I noticed it was made by Atari and I remarked to my firend that I thought they had went out of business.
But I also remember the game being offered by Nintendo, so I don’t know. Also, like Tetris the game starts with a beginner, novice or expert levels, so you do not have to wait and play the easier levels to get to the tougher levels. Also, you can build your fort as large as you want but are confined by the time limit and if you do not secure your walls by the end of the time limit you loose the game. I also, remember the music for this game and the drum beat and it always o through my head when thinking about it.
Again, I do not know why it was never as popular as I think it should have been. Had it been released earlier then 1992, it likely would have been. The game plays much like the typical Nintendo game from that era.
