Genre:  Simulation    |     Year: 1990    |     Publisher: Sierra On-Line, Inc.     |     Developer: Dynamix, Inc.
Game Review (written by Tromain) Added on: 10/05/2009
Red Baron is one of the million dog fight flying Sims floating around the world, quite an old one, with very limited pixilated graphics. The controls are clunky at best, and can become frustrating, however, if you can get the grasp of the controls this game does truly have its moments! Nothing like the feeling of flying around and around and watching bullets pepper the enemy until you finally bring them down! So many times, I look at this game on my hard drive and think "Why is that still there?!? I should have deleted that LONG ago" yet for some reason I find myself opening it to have a quick dog fight before the final erasure.
...and there it remains! The plane feels clunky, the music would be better non-existent, the graphics as I already said are shockingly bad, but Red Baron has some undefined quality to keep true flight Sims addicts coming back for more and more. The AI, thought great in its heyday, is severely limited and once you find the right way to kill the enemy, it becomes easy to the point of idiocy.
Red Baron must be held up high as a true master piece of it's time, even with all its flaws. There is no way you can be a true "Flight sim addict" unless this game is lurking somewhere in your collection! Truly a great game to waste some time with and the series

(Except Red Baron 2) are all amazing to play, improving the quality and tweaking the failures as they went along to keep its titles held in the top 5 best flight sim dog fight games ever!
If you are interested in flight sims, but never tried them? This is the best game to begin your journey with! But for those who have played this game and are looking for the most fun, get your hands on Red Baron 3D to have some serious blistering dog fights that will truly challenge you, no matter how good you think you are!
It's a true classic that you must play at least once. Try this game and you will see what I mean, definitely worth a play, and when you move on to the newer flight Sims, you will appreciate them all the more!
