Secret Agent

Secret agent was an interesting game published by Apogee software in the early nineties. It was built of the same engine as the popular Crystal Caves, which was also published by Apogee software.
You take the character of Agent 006 1/2. It is your mission to rid the world of a psychotic evil genius, whose plans are to take over the world with evil robotic slaves to do his evil bidding. As the antagonist, you shoot your way through three episodes of this epic side scrolling adventure, decimating castle by castle, making it to final one where the blueprints are located.

The enemies in this game are different than those of any previous Apogee software game, or any other company's titles, for that matter... For when you shoot an enemy, it won't necessarily die on the first shot. The enemy will 'devolve' to a weaker enemy. This devolution will continue until it reaches the weakest enemy, where it will then, upon being shot, leave behind a tomb stone. This tomb stone can either be shot for an extra bonus of five hundred points, (which is not much for this game, for the usual point values are in the k's) or can be ignored, and you get no points.
The main map is set up something like one out of the Super Mario Brothers franchise or Commander Keen. It is an Island where there are buildings that upon walking into grant you access into the level. There are also other items on the map, including a teleporter, which, upon walking into, will quickly transport you from one end of the giant main island to the next. Sometimes, it will even transport you to an Island other than the one the teleporter was on. Careful about using these teleporters, though. There are some that will transport you from the point number one location to the point number two location, but will not transport you back to the number one location once you exit the teleportation device.
The sound of the game is simple. The sounds are nothing more than brief blips of the pc speaker (or sound blaster sound card, should you be using the emulation benefits brought on by emulators of Dos Games, such as the free DOS BOX ) but, the sounds are not annoying like some other games of the age using only the pc speaker.
It is a very good game. The graphics are appealing for the time period in which it was created, and still, to this day, can be considered to have better graphics than some modern side scrollers. If you are a fan of such games as Commander Keen, Duke Nukem, Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure, Crystal Caves, or Monster Bash, this title is definitely worth the download.
