Game Review (written by Banatwood) Added on: 09/29/2006
Sonic Boom is a Sega Genesis arcade game. It is a scrolling game, which means that the scream is constantly moving upward (vertically). The game is a shooting style game, in which you play a United States air force pilot. You are armed with the newest super Sonic Boom aircraft. You must face all six levels of enemies in order to prevent the entire world being destroyed. It isn’t as hard as it may seem the game allows you to have 5 continues.
Each of the continues comes with three lives. So all together you actually have 15 tries to complete the six levels. That isn’t as hard as you might think.
I'm not the best of gamers and I’m horrible at shooting games but I loved this game and the action that it contains. The best part for me was that at the end of each level there was a boss. You must defeat the boss in order to move on to the next level and to complete that level. When you are combating the boss you must defeat him within the given time limit. This sounds a little hard at first but don’t worry you will get the hang of it.
Other then the Bosses most other enemies are merely aircrafts. There are also a few other enemies that show up occasionally these include tanks, trains and turret installations that you must also defeat to move forward in the game. The best way that I found to defeat the enemies was to shot waves of bullets at the planes. Throughout the game there are also ways to reveal improved new weaponry that will assist you along your way. Be sure to collect as many new weapons as possible it will be a high help as you move through the levels. There are also other bonuses located throughout the game. Keep your eyes open for these they are also lots of help.
Overall I loved the game. It brought me back to my childhood when I would sit and play my original Sega Genesis. The game is wonderful and a great deal of fun to play. I recommend it to anyone that likes to play arcade games or just has a little extra time to relax. I wish I would have found the game sooner. Although I do spent a little too much time playing it is very addicting, even after I beat the game I still want to play more. I’m always finding out new tricks and finding new bonuses that I didn’t find before.
