Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 12/30/2007
Bally Midway had created a game in 1983 that was very successful and was quite popular many years after its release. This game would happen to be the most exciting action driving game known as Spy Hunter. The game has great game play and very addicting theme music that made this game’s success skyrocket.
During the game you will take on the role of a spy who will be driving around in an armed vehicle. Your entire objective of the game will be to travel throughout the freeway attempting to destruct a large amount of enemies trying to protect the civilian vehicles.

During the game you will take on the role of a spy who will be driving around in an armed vehicle. Your entire objective of the game will be to travel throughout the freeway attempting to destruct a large amount of enemies trying to protect the civilian vehicles.
At the beginning of the game you will be driving a vehicle invented for the game known as the G-6155 Interceptor

which has been modeled upon a 1983 Z28. The name of the car has been thought of by the game designer’s birth date. The enemy vehicles will be trying to destroy your car or even just force you off of the roads. All of the enemy vehicles have been designed to be very unique with their own special features.
The game has four different enemies that you will be competing against. They are all designed to be dark blue, but have their own special characteristics. The first car is known as the Switchblade. With this car it has been designed with a wheel mounted tire slasher. This item will have you trying to avoid it as much as you can or you will be swerving around the road or if you come into contact with it you will crash.
The next car is the Road Lord. The car has bulletproof armor making it that your bullets completely useless to its destruction. This does make the car near impossible to destroy, but you will eventually discover a way to annihilate it.
Then there is the limousine car known as the Enforcer. This car is equipped with a thug who has a shotgun attempting to get fire on your vehicle. This car is a little simpler than previous vehicles to destroy since it is only equipped with minimal shot range.
Lastly is the Mad Bomber. This would be that pesky helicopter which will be dropping bombs on top of you. The helicopter is a little more difficult to avoid, but you can easily move out of the way of those annoying bombs heading your way. You can destroy the Mad Bomber with the supplied missiles, which is the only vehicle that will have any use of these. The bombs cannot only destruct you though; there is the possibility that they come into contact with civilian vehicles.
During game play you will be able to change your vehicle into a cigarette boat. To do this you will drive into the special boathouse that will appear on the side of the road. During certain parts of the game you will see the words ‘Bridge Out’ and then you will become forced in entering the boathouse. During this part, game is still very similar to your normal driving, but gives you that needed break from the usual occurring action. During this part of the game two others will replace the enemies. These two enemies will be the Barrel Dumper, which will travel ahead of you dropping barrels in your path, which you will have to avoid. The next enemy is the Doctor Torpedo, which will be shooting several projectile items towards your boat. There is the option to use an oil slick on these opponents to destroy them. When this part of the game has ended up travel into the boathouse again and be changed back into your car.
There are two terrains in the game, the first one is your usual road/water terrain and then there is the Icy Road terrain. This is when your background will become a winter setting making your driving abilities a little more difficult.
Spy Hunter has been equipped with a point calculator keeping track of all the points you gain by the distance you travel and the amount of enemy vehicles you destroy. This gives you something to work for during the game.
The game is a great action driving simulation that is very enjoyable. With the amount of success that the game achieved you are guaranteed lots of fabulous fun. There is no doubt you will be fascinated with Spy Hunter’s game play.
