Star Wars

C64
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1983    |     Publisher: Parker Brothers     |     Developer: Atari
Game Review (written by Hutt_destroyer) Added on: 04/16/2008
This game was one of the earliest games following the star wars story, released in 1983, this game was the first in a long line of star wars games, this game came out in arcades at first. The game has the player perform the trench run in stages, first stage involves fending off ties while trying to not get hit. The game is played in a First Person View, form Likes cockpit. Then the player must make it to the trench, which involves racing along the surface of the death star, while turrets try and blow the player out of the sky.

Then the trench run comes. The trench is nothing like it is in the movie, the player must avoid obstructions in his/her path, then the final blow, shooting torpedoes into the thermal exhaust port, the game has three difficulty levels, the higher level, the more ties, obstructions, and turrets there are. The games controls feature a cross-hair that is moved around, which aims the lasers of the players X-wing, while the game follows a preset flight path, though the player can move his/her fighter up and down during the trench run, which is how the obstructions are avoided. The graphics are very low, polygons make up the models, making for blocky shaped enemies. I first time I played this game was on my game cube, it was a reward in the game "Star Wars: Rouge Squadron III Rebel Strike".
Which also features a trench run that is similar to this arcade game. I enjoyed playing this game many times, as I know any one else that player will, LucasArts made games similar to this one for Episodes V & VI, and many improvements to make the games 3-D and re-released the games as one, which is entitled "Star Wars Trilogy Arcade".
You could find this game in arcades in two forms, a up-right style with a joystick that had buttons on it for laser/flight control, and a sit down version with the same controller interface.
There were also a version for the Commodore 64, allowing people to play the game in their own home.If your are one of those people that like to play retro game, a star wars game fan, or just a star wars fan in general this may be a game that you would want to download.
The arcade game is long being made, so if you find one in an arcade, play it, you are playing a piece of history.
