Street rod is a great simple game that’s been round for years. It’s always been a big favourite of mine, hence coming back to play it again. It works on the basics of starting out small and making something out of next to nothing. The music and graphics are old, but give the idea that it is the 60’s.
The game starts off in 1963, where you have only $450. With this you need to review the newspaper to buy a car. You have different makes and models there’s a bit of choice but not an extreme amount.

The game starts off in 1963, where you have only $450. With this you need to review the newspaper to buy a car. You have different makes and models there’s a bit of choice but not an extreme amount. Once you have a car, its straight to the strip. You can have two different types of races which are the simple drag
race and then the Mulholland drive road race. The drag race is good to start off with until you get to know the controls. In the drag race you can race for $10, $50 or just for kicks. The road race is longer, and you can race for $50, $100 or pink slips.
After you’ve won a few races, do your car up with a bigger engine, lose the bumpers, chop the roof and see how high you can get your speed up to.
The king is the best dragster on the strip, eventually, when you have won enough races, the king will come along and ask you for a drag (you don’t have a choice). If you win this, he will automatically ask for a road race (again you don’t have a choice).
A few tips in this is to start off dragging until you get the hang of controls, then go for the road races where you can win your opponents car. It’s a bit cheeky, but when the light goes green see if you can knock your opponent off the road. This gives you a bit of a head start. Keep in mind they will do the same to you if they pass you or you pass them during the race.
When on the road race, be weary of the police who will simply give you a fine, and hence you will not lose your car if racing for pink slips. If you are low on cash and can’t afford the fine, they will throw you in jail.
There are a selection of different makes and models, so you can play around with each to see which one is the fastest once fully done up. I think the fastest speed is about 132mph but see how you go.
Overall this is a great game that you can easily play for hours and hours on end. With so many different combinations to the end. This is one that will keep in your collection and after a few years will always come back to.
