Game Review 1 (written by Zudoo) Added on: 01/07/2007
Super Mario brothers is a side scroller originally released for the NES in 1987. Since then it has appeared on all Nintendo consoles and went on to be one of the best games of all time.
Super Mario brothers takes place in the universe of the Mario franchise, this is the first game of Mario ever released. I recently downloaded it on the wii's virtual console, and played through it a few times now, here's my review of super Mario brothers.
You start the game off as Mario in search of kidnapped princess peach from Bowser, to accomplish this you will need to make your way through eight stages, to find and destroy Bowser to win the game.

The stages of the game go up in difficulty as you progress, and make it harder to complete.
Each stage has it own obstacles and enemies, Goombas, Turtles, Etc; obstacles consist of holes in the ground or mushrooms to climb up and lava.
Mario's abilities are pretty limited to simple moves, like only being able to break bricks from underneath, no bum jump or picking up items to throw, the moves aren’t too simple that it affects the game play; it’s more of a challenge to anything else.
The 16bit graphics aren’t that bad to look at, because Mario’s profile it simple it gives him justice and the level is bright, sharp and lots of things is happening on screen all the time. Mario Brothers isn’t about what it looks like

it what’s it represents, if you’re looking for good graphics you’ll be disappointed.
Each level amongst the stages aren’t very long and don’t take that long to get through, if you have played it numerous times before you will have no trouble in completing it quickly and easy.
The lasting appeal of the game is enormous, it’s one of those games that has tremendous replay value, it all depends, the replay isn’t a big experience, but more of a small, easy to get into and straight forward game play experience. If you do get bored there are lots of secrets to find or you can try to beat completion records, to keep you interested for a long period of time.
Super Mario brothers has stood the test of time since its release some time ago, even today it’s still giving people new experiences and is a fantastic and enjoyable game.

Game Review 2 (written by Jimbob00) Added on: 10/06/2006
First off let me start by saying that this game consumed a good 6 months of my childhood and for a good reason. It is a fantastic game. If you ever owned this game (you had to if you bought the original NES because the game came with it) you would remember it being paired with the game duck hunt which used a flashgun to play, but the real reason you wanted that cartridge was for super Mario bros. This is a fantastic game for starters especially if you are a fan of the super Mario bros. games. Obviously this one was the very original.
You start as the character who later became Nintendo’s mascot Mario. The plot is simple. You are Mario and you need to save the princess from King Koopa. You can stomp on turtles and kick the shells at enemies or jump on some of the enemies. But not all enemies can just be stomped on; sometimes you may need to use fireballs to kill them. To reach her you need to travel through 8 different worlds each one increasing in difficulty. In each new world different strategies will be needed to complete the levels along with the introduction of new enemies. The game sums up with a grand finale a battle with King Koopa. However once you finally destroy King Koopa you discover that the princess is actually located in a different castle.
The Graphics in this game are definitely not as good as the 2nd and 3rd super Mario brothers for obvious reasons but if you are concerned about the graphics you are missing the point. The game play has a great feel and each level is unique in its own way. Not to mention that there are multiple secrets to find along the way. Including power-ups like mushrooms and fire plants, along with secret warp zones which can only be found in a few levels that will take you to different worlds and save you plenty of time beating the game. All in all this game is a classic in every sense of the word and is a must play for any true super Mario bros. fan.
