Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 12/04/2007
The Last Ninja is an action adventure game where, after two hundred years of the Fujiwara Clan ruling, many of the townspeople and farmers have left the town and travelled up to the Togakure Mountains to start their lives over as the Mystic Shadow Warriors. Eventually you’ll become one of the most feared warriors because you have mastered the art of weaponry and mind control. These two skills ensure victory after you’ve gone through all the years of training that made you what you are.

The Last Ninja definitely has a lot of exploration with the added features of puzzle solving and action filled combat. Throughout the game you will discover that your main goal is to travel to the palace of Shogun Kunitoki and combat against him. With the defeat of your enemy you will then retrieve the sacred scrolls.

The level of difficulty increases the further along in the game you get. The henchmen become smarter and faster making them harder to defeat and giving you an extra challenge to progress in the game. The enemies will not only be getting harder, they will be learning your techniques. You can't be predictable anymore.

On your screen you will have a display of your energy supply and the

entire inventory that you have collected. There is the health meter on your screen, as well, which will be displayed on the bottom. You will see the map of the world in an isometric perspective, which will allow you to move in eight different directions. When you are moving you will generally face the direction you are going.

When you encounter obstacles, you will be required to jump over them by doing a somersault. Some of the obstacles can range from traps on the ground to very fatal natural features within the terrain itself. Throughout the game you will find landmarks such as shrines where you will need to kneel in respect to determine what you are expected to collect next. Most of these shrines have been hidden quite well, so you are going to have to look for them.

During the attack mode you will be able to do numerous combinations while attacking your opponent. You will also have the use of several weapons, such as the sword, nunchaku, staff, shuriken, and even smoke bombs. Each will come in handy throughout the game, so it is wise to get control of all the weapons while you can.

The graphical appeal that the game holds is similar to various arcade games with a little more detail. A lot of the game does look like an arcade format. When you first start off playing, you will be amazed by how the graphics are so well done, but they don’t change too much throughout the game. What the designers did, they did well...they just didn't do that much.

The Last Ninja is a great action adventure game that has become a very popular game over the years. You will find yourself getting very addicted to this game when you start playing it. With there being a great story behind this game, the only thing you can expect is a great game. The Last Ninja definitely lives up to its plot and is a phenomenal game to play. If you like action adventure that is full of action packed sequences, you will love The Last Ninja.

The best game for C64 ever seen. I used to play it when I was younger and it was the first one I completed! It will keep you glued on your computer! Fantastic 3d scenes, fluid graphic action, several puzzles to solve, magic to use, it's not just a combat game, but a very complete game.
