Game Review (written by Rdowney) Added on: 02/10/2007
I had not played this game since I was in grade school, so imagine my surprise when I had found it available for download online. Now when I was in grade school, I thought this game was as hard as could be, but I never thought this would be the case when I played it today at age 22.
Bzzz, wrong, circle gets the square. Although it probably was not as hard as I had found it back in the day, this thing was still pretty darn challenging.
I suggest this game for players of all ages, as although it was designed as a children's game, it draws intrigue from children of all ages, from five to eighty five. This kind of reminded me to begin with of The Journey Man Project Turbo, but I guess it turned out a lot better than that game considering I could never get out of the first building in that one. Anyways, I feel as if you enjoyed that game you would certainly like this one too.
Likewise, this is also an imaginative world, sent to a strange place kind of thing. However, here, instead of being sent somewhere off in the future, in The Search of the Most Amazing Thing, it is a change of scenery, not time, that is created. This 1983 game sends you off to the distant planet of Porquatz where you begin to explore your new surroundings as the debonair character Terry Bailey. The player soon encounters the strange uncle who comes in with his one third blimp one third ATV one third hovercraft kind of creation, known as the B-Liner, and the uncle enlists you on a mission aboard the B-Liner to find "the most amazing thing."
The world outside the city is a whole new world that the player must navigate, including tar fields and the like. This is where the game kind of turns into a flight simulator, where in order to conserve fuel, you have to use the hovering capability of the B-Liner to adjust the altitude and adjust for the wind currents and things like that.
Flying around "The Mire" on your jetpack, you are able to collect clues by speaking to "people" of the area and collect supplies for your craft, like fuel. The game ends in a very cheesy way. Some may find it cute, others may say "I can believe I played all this time for THIS!" In the final scene, you are directed towards a mirror, where you find that the most amazing thing is yourself. Awww. It teaches a fine lesson that the most beautiful gift in the world is yourself, so enjoy yourself, be happy with yourself, and treat yourself right.
All in all, a fun and adventurous game!
