(06/11/2007) Ah, Turrican, one of the classics. A wander around omnidirectional scrolling blast-em-up I first came across as a callow youth, one that rightfully earned rave reviews at the time. It shares a number of tracks from its music score with Transformers: the Movie, your character has the ability to transform into a deadly spinning thing, and it has a thoroughly comprehensive selection of weapons. You had your standard gun, which was upgradeable via a variety of pickups, a lightning ray which you could sweep around yourself, screen-clearing walls of force and mines dropped whilst transformed. The enemies were a fairly diverse lot, with impressive bosses and sub-bosses in every stage. There were a number of powerup-laden invisible blocks dotted about the place also. It has a number of similarities with platform games of the era, although refraining from the excessively cute aspects. I strongly recommend downloading it.
