Vixen

C64
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1988    |     Publisher: Martech     |     Developer: Intelligent Design
Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 01/01/2008
In the game Vixen you will take on the role of the last human being that is alive on the planet Granath. Several magical foxes have raised your character since you were a young child and made a promise to your elders that you would take back the planet for them and restore all humanity. Dinosaurs have rule this planet for many years now.
For the levels that you will be completing there is a designated time limit for you to do each level.
You will progress through each level going from left to right, making it a side scrolling game. Your character has the ability to switch into a fox, which will make it that you are able to access the underground lairs of the planet. In the underground lairs your character will be collecting gems, mega gems and weapon upgrades to assist you further into the game. During the game you will be traveling around the planet and at times you may come across fox head tokens. You will need these head tokens to be able to transform into the fox formation, which will then allow you into the underground lairs.
Your character has a whip, which is used as her weapon, which is great for defeating enemies and to collect various bonus items that have been spread throughout the levels. When it comes to the graphical appeal of the game it has been equipped with a great movement feature for your main character. All the animations used for this character are very realistic that hasn’t been used in many games during the year of development.
The overall design of the game is quite spectacular for being developed in 1988. The game at first did receive a lot of controversy for the image displayed on the game box. It first began with a snarling model wearing almost nothing and the inclusion of a poster of the box cover made even more controversy. The cover caused a far amount of controversy, the game title when translated from German is lingo for a grotesque sexual activity, and so the games title was changed to She-Fox in German speaking places before its release.
If you want to experience a game that does have superb graphical detail and a somewhat different adventurous plot then Vixen would be a fantastic selection. The game includes great game play and awesome enemy encounters that you will soon discover yourself not only addicted to the actual box of the game, but as well the game play itself. Vixen is a great addition to the Martech gaming collection.
