The Way of the Exploding Fist is another karate game where the player will take part in several one on one matches. An older gentleman who will be seen in the background is monitoring every single game.
When you have defeated an opponent you will then be taken to the next stage in the game and an even more difficult opponent. The game does not include the energy bar format at the top of the screen like most fighting games. This game has two tasks you must complete which are known as yin-yang.

When you successfully hit your opponent that round will be ended. There are several moves that will get you half of a yin-yang, and other really well done moves can get you an entire one.
Throughout the game you will complete many different stages that are quite difficult. When you have done this you will be taken to a bonus round where a bull will charge you. This can be quite amusing especially if he catches you.
There is a total of sixteen moves available differing between your standardized kicks and jumps, some crazy somersaults, and amazing roundhouse kicks. Once you have determined how to do these superb moves you will be quickly getting your yin-yang executed and defeating every opponent. When you take the game on in single player mode if you loose one time against an opponent the game will be over.
Overall, the game does depict the martial arts style format much better then many other fighter games that have been designed in the past. The way the events are scored alone show how amazingly difficult the game truly is. The game has been viewed in a third person perspective allowing you to get the view point from the side lines, but be in the action yourself. Everything is done in side scrolling so you won’t have any weird camera angles screwing you up.
For the game being released in 1985 it is way more advanced than many games that are still being released today with the scoring layout. Overall, The Way of the Exploding Fist is a very exciting, endless game that will have you hooked right away. There is so much more to the game that keeps the players interested. With the advanced difficulty you may find yourself being a little frustrated at the beginning, but you will get the hang of things quick enough.
