Galshell-Blood Red Skies is a unique shooting game. It may not be the best game for people faint of heart or with weak stomachs. This is because the unique design of game theme blends the human body with strange creatures and it looked like you are fighting inside a very big organism. It is a very hard shooting game for people who want something different. You can also use a joy stick or game pad to play, since it is very hard to use the keyboard to win this game. There is a lot of reflexive action and fast paced sequences here.
You can choose from different vehicles, male and female creatures. There are two basic weapons on your vehicles; the direct weapon and indirect weapon. The only difference between male and female is the indirect weapon. While the female's indirect weapon is homing missiles, the male's indirect weapon is a homing laser. The homing missile is good for scattering low resistance enemies while the homing laser is good against high resistance enemies. Your vehicles have three life points and the game will be over if you lose all three life points.
When you kill your enemy with a direct shot, you will get blood sacs from them. There is also a 'blood gauge' on the upper right hand corner of the screen. When the blood gauge reaches 100 percent, your weapon will be upgraded and it will give you one extra life point.
This is a very hard game because there is almost too much shooting from the enemies. It is almost impossible to evade all of their shots. So, the main trick is to finish them before they have chances to shoot your vehicles. There are roughly three forms of enemies, small, middle and large. The small have the lowest resistance and give only one blood sac while middle and large enemies (including bosses) have higher resistance and yield multiple blood sacs. It is hard to use only direct shooting to kill the enemy to get blood sacs, since indirect shots are more powerful. So the trick is try to use indirect weapons to kill small, non-lucrative enemies, or to weakon more powerful ones. Then kill them with a direct shot in order to collect the blood sacs. Be careful! The percent of blood sac gauge will be reduced if you lose life points.
Overall, this is a gory and fun shooter with an unusual theme and a high degree of difficulty. It is definitely worth a try, but hang on and don't get too frustrated until you learn some strategies that will help you to succeed.
