Game Review (written by Eggnogdog) Added on: 06/23/2007 While few peope nowadays get their rocks off at mere words, way back when, in the 1980s, it was totally crazy and offensive to even contemplate. Yet, one developer did, and they made this "game." It's a text "adventure." It plays more like an interactive book than it does any sort of game.
Technically speaking, it doesn't really even have graphics. The basic premise is that you're a party animal, think John Belushi, and you've lost your touch. The parties and ladies just ain't coming like they used to. So, you must rectify the situation by going on hunts for various items to win the affection of assorted ladies, some of which are verifiably cute. I mean it makes it for a good waste of a couple minutes, but otherwise, don't bother with it for any game aspect. What it does serve well as is a frozen in time reminder of 80s culture.
Cheesy, kitsch, and ultimately tacky as all get out. It also serves to demonstrate somewhat articulately how much we've progressed in terms of what is and isn't risque. Back then, this was devil work. Nowadays, parents would be happy to have their kids reading away, which is the sole gameplay function. Softporn adventure isn't much for gameplay, but as a cultural remnant, it serves well.
The bottom line is that it's simply not that rewarding or compelling relative to just about any other game. While it also serves historical value as a reminder that games used to be only words, that value is easily gleaned from a passing glance and downloading this game would doubtlessly take more time than it's worth. It is also somewhat repetitive due to the nature of text games, and the puzzles are all too familiar for anyone who play the Leisure Suit Larry series, though I'm not entirely sure they're all the same as another reviewer suggests.
That said, and though I have been quite pessimistic, there is also a humorous aspect to playing this game. Considering that this passed for risqué, it is quite funny to see how prudish the world was back in the 80s. You will play it and giggle to yourself as you realize not only is a given innuendo lame, it was also considered a sign of moral decay by the alarmists of the era.

Nekojin (03/15/2007) Softporn Adventure is virtually the same game as the first Leisure Suit Larry game. The only real differences are that the LSL game had a graphical interface and a steady stream of jokes. All of the puzzles are virtually identical. |
