In alone in the dark 2 you play as a character named Edward Carnby, a character from the first alone in the dark. The game starts out in a video sequence where a character named Stryker is infiltrating the mansion trying to rescue a young girl named Grace who has been kidnapped, but things don’t go that well for him. That’s where Carnby comes in. He is sent to the mansion to investigate a bootlegger named one eyed jack after hearing from Stryker that he was involved in the kidnapping.

That’s where Carnby comes in. He is sent to the mansion to investigate a bootlegger named one eyed jack after hearing from Stryker that he was involved in the kidnapping.
Carnby learns that jack and his followers are actually 15th century pirates who gained immortality after joining forces with a powerful voodoo witch. But the dark magic which they possess to make them immortal
comes at a price, they must make human sacrifices which is why they have kidnapped Grace.
Carnby will have to find a way to break the spell and make them mortal again by fighting his way through the mansion killing jack’s minions, finding clues, and completing puzzles along the way.
Alone in the dark 2 does not progress like the first game, the characters are well explained and the plot keeps the game very interesting. Most of the game is played as Edward Carnby but you will play as the grace on parts of it. She does not use weapons or fight so the parts you play with her will be using stealth basically just avoiding the creatures, she will be captured if spotted. The game’s graphics are not great but the game play is fun and innovative, for instance when fighting without weapons you hold down the action button and which ever direction you press does a different attack so you can actually put combos together. The game play and the graphics all together make for a good game. The backgrounds and creatures you fight are actually rather spooky but not as spooky as the first game. They kinda took away from the horror in this game. But for a dos box game like this it’s well worth the download. But I would suggest playing the first game in the series before this just so you get a little better understanding of what the game is about.
This game was made in 1994 it was ported to the 3do in 1995 and then it was ported to sega saturn and even play station in 1996 and there was even a Japanese version ported to sega saturn, so this game has gotten around and there are 3 sequels: alone in the dark 3 (1995), alone in the dark: the new nightmare (2001) and alone in the dark 5 (2008).
I really enjoyed this game so I suggest it for anyone who is into old school survival horror games or anyone who has not played it yet.
