Amazon: Guardians of Eden is a very fun, point and click adventure game. The game plot has an Indiana Jones type flavor. The character you play is a man named Jason Roberts, a scientist, who starts out the game arriving for work as usual. A short while into the game, you (playing Roberts) visit your boss who informs you of some grim news. Your brother Allen was attacked on an expedition to do some field research in the Amazon. When you arrive home, you find a letter from Allen with some instructions, and that is only the beginning of your adventure.
Slave traders, a robot, a mercenary pilot, and an ancient tribe are just some of the zany encounters you will have in this game.
The game, as I stated, is a simple point and click style game. The interface itself is pretty standard, with pictured icons for your different commands. There’s the standard look, use, pick up, talk, and inventory. There is also a hint button in case you get stuck, click it and click an object to use the help. The hint depends on the hint level that you selected during the setup options. The disk button will bring up a menu, allowing you to save/load your game; you’ll be using this a lot if you're smart. Your
responses to a majority of the puzzles in this game are on a timer; if you say or do something wrong, you will lose the game, either by some type of death or some other event. Most of these I found to be quite amusing, depending on your current situation. So, you best say or do the right thing, which may take several tries before you get it right, which is why you should save often.
The game has quite a cinematic feel to it. The cut scenes are done with full motion video, as well as the portraits of people during conversation. The game is also divided into scenes called chapters, and each ends with a character saying something, and begins with a recap of the last chapter. The overall voice acting of the game I found to be decent, although it can be a bit cheesy, but cheesy in a humorous way. Make sure you pick up anything you can and that you also examine and interact with everything. Otherwise later on in the game you will find yourself getting stuck because you are missing a key inventory item. I encountered this very problem from forgetting an item early on, which forced me to go back several steps. Regardless of this and the difficulty of some of the puzzles, I found this game to be quite fun and enjoyable. I found a lot of the situations to be quite amusing. I would recommend any fan of point and click adventure games to give this game a try, if nothing else for the cheesiness and humor.
